Following a substantive review led by the British Horseracing Authority, the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the Racing Foundation, representative organisations across the sport’s industry have agreed to establish a new function to collaboratively drive and coordinate development of initiatives and activities focused on recruitment, training and retention. The key outcomes for the newly created function will be to improve the sustainability of the workforce, establishing and meeting future needs and driving improved skills, engagement and wellbeing. Initial priority will be to lead the design and delivery of an industry people strategy, in consultation with racing’s stakeholders, with a set of KPIs that will transparently hold the function accountable. The function will then be responsible for making evidence-based funding decisions for partners and programmes to implement the strategy and deliver the outcomes.

The role of Industry People Director is therefore an exciting opportunity to set and drive the strategic direction for the whole people agenda in British horseracing. The Director will be a member of the Industry People Board and responsible to the Board for the creation, agreement and further development of British horseracing’s industry-wide people strategy. This will include setting KPIs by which the function will be accountable and the opportunity to recruit the rest of the Programme Team. Once developed, the Industry People Director will hold primary responsibility for overseeing the delivery, evaluation and reporting of the programme, and ensuring that the agreed outcomes are met on time and within budget.

We are looking for candidates with requisite leadership acumen to enable the impact this new function could have on the whole industry. Candidates will be required to build trust with and across a broad range of stakeholders, hence strong interpersonal and ambassadorial skills are essential. They should have credible experience in HR, education, programme design and strategy, with the expertise to command respect and buy-in. They will have substantial interest in people and workforce welfare, and the ability to act as an effective advocate and ambassador to communicate British Horseracing as a great place to work and develop.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification to: https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference 5985.

The deadline for applications is midnight (BST) on Monday 8th August 2022. Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role.

Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in weeks commencing 15th August and 22nd August on Teams, following which, interviews with the Selection Panel will take place week commencing 12th September, in person.
