About the role

Arena Racing Company is the leading horse racing racecourse owner in the UK, operating 16 racecourses, 5 greyhound tracks, 5 hotels and 3 golf courses. We host some of the biggest days in the racing calendar including the famous St Leger Festival, Welsh Grand National and The Midlands Grand National. We also have some exciting non-race day activities across our venues, including a rich calendar of live music after racing.

Working as part of the IT team, you will support sales & marketing departments who are responsible for our racecourse promotion and customer engagement. The role is based at our Wolverhampton Racecourse offices.

Key responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Creating interfaces for websites and web applications that comply with best standards
  • Ensuring all UI’s are developed for device independence across desktop, tablet and mobile with an emphasis on mobile first
  • Maintain semantic markup for SEO
  • Work directly with the Senior Full Stack Developer to define libraries, design systems, standards and best practice
  • Evolve the front-end stack and lead the Digital Team on front end technology implementation
  • Mentor other members of the Digital team

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years commercial Development experience
  • A solid understanding of Web standards, optimisation techniques and best practices
  • A good eye for design and current trends
  • Experience developing with modern Javascript & TypeScript, WEB APIs and Interfaces
  • Advanced knowledge of Javascript frameworks
  • Expert level HTML5 and CSS3
  • Using CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap
  • Using CSS pre-processors such as SASS
  • Experience developing on the LAMP stack
  • A sharp eye for consistency between UI and Design
  • Exposure to SCRUM methodology desirable
  • Informed on accessible content to WAI-ARIA standards
  • Experience of prototyping tools such as Figma & Adobe XD
