An outstanding opportunity to train to become Clerk of the Course at Newton Abbot Races Ltd. The successful candidate will receive full support in order to complete the necessary training to be an approved BHA accredited Clerk of the Course.

Newton Abbot Races Ltd is a well-established racetrack in the Westcountry which has Spring to Autumn racing. The course has good local support and a vibrant holiday crowd on key race-days.

The Role:

Trainee Clerk of the Course – reports to the Managing Director.

The successful candidate would be required to work alongside the existing grounds team, whilst working towards the completion of the BHA Clerk of the Course training programme. Upon accreditation the candidate will assume the role of Clerk of the Course and cover the full spectrum of duties and responsibilities of the role. Amongst these would be to;

  • Ensure all BHA protocols/compliance To prepare and maintain the racetrack To run race-days to all BHA regulations Have awareness and management of all elements of Health and Safety Manage all racetrack staff In addition to the above, the Clerk has the opportunity to be involved in general racecourse business (including commercial).

Input on race and fixture planning will be required in order to maximise the position of Newton Abbot Racecourse.

This position is for Trainee Clerk of the Course but there is opportunity for management development within the company.
