Navan Racecourse is one of Ireland's leading racecourses and hosts c. 18 race meetings throughout the year, including a number of high profile races over both the Flat and National Hunt seasons.  

The role of Racecourse Manager for Navan Racecourse is a great opportunity for someone to grow and develop in their career. The role reports into the CEO of HRI Racecourses and the responsibilities & competencies required for the position are as follows:

Role Purpose

To lead the development and on-going operations of Navan Racecourse in order to deliver substantial growth and profitability from racing / non racing activities. The successful candidate will represent Navan Racecourse on behalf of HRI / HRI Racecourses in all relevant industry stakeholder relationships. 


  • Ensure the successful operation of the Navan Racecourse race programme and oversee the ongoing operation of the racecourse to the satisfaction of industry stakeholders and customers.
  • Develop a 5-year business plan for Navan Racecourse 
  • Lead and develop the team to deliver their performance objectives through coaching and feedback.
  • Manage through effective planning, monitoring and control all financial matters for Navan Racecourse.
  • Positively manage key relationships with industry stakeholders and third parties.
  • Work closely with the HRI Racecourses Leadership team to drive growth, synergies, and efficiencies across the tracks.
  • Ensure that Navan Racecourse provides an excellent customer experience which is good value for money while continuing to adapt and improve our customer offering (catering and service levels) in line with changing customer expectations.
  • Working with relevant personnel in HRI, deliver best in class practices in health & safety compliance for staff, customers and industry participants.
  • Protect and develop the brand of Navan Racecourse, enhancing its position as a leading racecourse.
  • Maximise race day attendances through effective race day marketing campaigns
  • Grow and develop Navan’s sponsorship portfolio & revenue streams, maximising its commercial potential, with a focus on raceday activities/initiatives.
  • Grow non-raceday revenue streams with new events and long term tenant agreements.
  • Maintain and further develop the role the track plays within the local area and communities.
  • As the job and role matures, undertake additional responsibilities that will enhance the overall objectives of the role.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

Skills and Experience Required

·      Relevant experience at a management level.

·      Thorough knowledge of the Irish and international thoroughbred racing industry.

·      Relevant 3rd level degree or equivalent.

·      Ability to collaborate and influence effectively across all levels internally and externally.

·      Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·      Strong commercial acumen.

·      Previous experience of managing budgets. 

·      Previous demonstrated experience of effectively leading a team.

·      Demonstrated strong project management skills & methodologies. 

·      Ability to work in collaboration with Boards or Committees

As racing is a seven-day business, flexibility in relation to working hours is required. You will be required to work some weekends and evenings.
