Who is Doncaster Racecourse?

Home to the world’s oldest classic horse race, the St. Leger, Doncaster Racecourse is a unique multipurpose venue welcoming over 500,000 guests to over 35 fixtures each year and a full events calendar hosting events such as Weddings, Conferences, Boxing, Summer Crafting, Classic Car Show, Antiques Fayres and lots more.

About the role:

To develop, lead and manage a team to support and deliver a multi-million pound hospitality, retail and events operations across the venue. Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders, ensure events are planned and executed within budget. To excel in all areas of operational excellence, financial performance and guest satisfaction to achieve company and client objectives within all company policies, procedures and guidelines. 

Responsibilities for the successful Assistant Venue Manager include (but not limited to):

  • Support the venue manager in the planning, delivery and execution of all operations
  • To assist in actively promoting sales growth, profitability and guest service, through innovation, analysis and quality service
  • Act as the duty manager to the venue during events
  • Ensure day to day & event operations are delivered to within budget
  • To promote a positive health & safety culture
  • Stock management of a £250k portfolio, including ordering, reporting and monitoring
  • Coach, mentor and develop management & supervisory team
  • Oversee all areas of your responsibility, making sure all SOP’s and policies are followed
  • Collaboratively work and partner with numerous ARC departments & venues
  • Actively be involved in recruitment, appraisal and disciplinary processes
  • Any other duties as assigned by the venue manager and the executive director

  • Experience of leading and managing a team of people
  • Previous stadia and large scale catering experience
  • Managing a large stock profile
  • Dynamic
  • Can switch between a proactive and reactive approach
  • Guest focused mentality
  • A confident communicator at all levels
  • Strong organisational & planning skills
  • Sound knowledge of budgets, margins & reporting
