Job title: Weekend Sitting Up Person
Based at: The National Stud, Newmarket
Contract type: 5-month Fixed Term contract
Hours: Friday & Saturday nights - 10pm - 6.30am
About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Weekend Sitting Up Person to join our Team at The National Stud
Previous experience of foaling is essential. The position involves close observation of pregnant mares and newborn foal and assisting with foaling’s.
The Weekend Sitting Up person will.
- Regularly be checking/entering stables to check in-foal mares for signs of parturition.
- Supervise, educate, and encourage students who are sitting up as part of rota.
- Call on-duty senior member of staff when labour begins.
- Assist with foaling, and post-natal care, including ensuring that foal stands and sucks in the hours immediately following birth.
- Continue to monitor mare and newborn foal throughout the night.
- Update and maintain foaling records and information points throughout the Foaling Unit.
